How It Works

We provide opportunities for people of all ages to informally teach or learn real-life applications of technology, from basic woodworking and sewing to advanced computer programming, 3D printing, Computer Numerical Control machining to artificial intelligence and biotechnology.
Our mission is to foster a community of learners and doers by encouraging professional development, creativity, perseverance, and ingenuity at any age.
Our goal is to promote our community's diversity of skills, interests, and ways of learning; stimulate the acquisition of new skills; encourage collaborations across disciplines and support entrepreneurship.
Los Alamos Makers harnesses local talent to allow the broader community to explore, learn and perfect new skills.
What are you looking for
Our space is flexible; our people are friendly. Los Alamos Makers is a place where you can learn and share your existing knowledge. What would you like to do?
I want to use the equipment.
Inquire about the piece of equipment that you want to use. Each piece of equipment is different, so you may need to be cleared to use it. Usually a brief instruction and safety training.
I want a space to Launch my business idea
Entrepreneurs drive innovation and the economy. Become a member. Pre-incubation Access Agreements available.
I want to start a club.
Do you have a special interest and would like to meet likeminded individuals. Request to start a club, either on our online maker Discord or on site. Clubs may be open to nonmembers.
Please first check out our calendar and complete this request form.
I want to teach a class
You can teach a class open to the general public but will have to bring your own materials or have students bring their own. If you would like to charge a fee, the Los Alamos Makers will charge a fee per participant. You can volunteer to teach a class for us, and we may cover the cost of materials.
All participants need to complete the Liability Waiver
What We Are
A place full of equipment
A place where you can have access to specialized equipment, get work done or enjoy a hobby (while networking and socializing, if desired)
A prototyping facility
Our facility provides access to resources like 3D printers, CNC machines, and laser cutters.
A business pre-incubator
If you have a business idea but need equipment or help with your prototype, you've come to the right place. Our general member meetings are a good place to bounce your ideas off of others. Dedicated space with possible storage is available under an Access Agreement.
A place where you can teach
So many classes are possible. You many need to provide your own materials. You may also need to provide your own equipment and tools.
There is no extra charge for members if you are just inviting a group of friends or want to open your class to the community, free of charge. If you would like to charge for your class, there will be a fee per participant.
All participants need to complete the Liability Waiver.
What We Are Not
Just a place to hang out
Although we strongly encourage socializing, making connections, networking and open brainstorming, we encourage you to attend our special events, general meetings and meetups (it's the best time to "just hangout"!). Members can also suggest a new club or schedule a day and time for such an event. Please first check out our calendar and complete this request form.
A place where "makers" wait for project orders
If you are not a member but have a project in mind and don't know how to get it done, feel free to join the MeetUp groups we maintain at MeetUp.com (Woodworking, Sewing, Tech). There, you can submit your project and see if anyone is interested in helping with your project. We don't take a cut. We just provide the opportunity for you to make connections.
Feel free to also attend our monthly general meeting to meet some of our members.
An after-school program
Although we have spearheaded, welcome and still sponsor kid activities on site, like the Los Alamos Coder Dojo, those activities are mentor-supervised activities.
Please do NOT purchase a membership for a child to just come in and tinker on his/her own. Parents, however, are welcome to become a member and bring their child for a project or just to tinker together (up to 2 children per parent). For safety reasons, children should NOT roam around and aimlessly grab items at leisure. Children should be supervised at all times.
Parents assume full responsibility for their child.
The Liability Waiver for each child must be completed.
